UMFK women's soccer stays undefeated
FARMINGTON/Machias/Fort Kent - Donike Ferriera of Montego Bay, Jamaica collected a hat trick as the UMFK women's soccer team rolled past the University of Maine at Farmington 5-1 in a non-conference women's soccer match at Farmington on Saturday.
Whitney Sinclair of Dexter added two goals and assisted on Ferriera's opening goal, and Jenn Colpitts of Scarborough also had an assist in the win.
Ferriera scored at 13:08 to give UMFK a 1-0 edge.
UMF responded and scored to tie the match on a rebound. Sinclair broke the tie with an unassisted goal at 37:19 and Ferriera then scored her second goal of the day off a corner kick 34 seconds before the break for a comfortable 3-1 lead for the UMFK at intermission.
Ferriera and Sinclair each netted another score in the second half for UMFK, and Sydney Proctor of Saco made five saves for the Lady Bengals.
Crystal Johnson recorded nine saves for UMF, which UMFK outshot 25-14.
The Lady Bengals remained undefeated at 12-0 and will travel to SUNY-Canton Saturday October 22 and Sunday October 23 for a pair of games vs. the Roos to close regular season play.
Three days before the Farmington game, the Lady Bengals shut down the Clippers at the University of Maine Machias.
Theresa Biggs of Cape Town, South Africa scored two goals and assisted on another, all in the first half, to pace the Bengals to a 4-0 victory over UMM on Wednesday, October 12.
Jamie Nadeau of Madawaska scored one goal and Victoria Dubois-Iredale of Montreal, Quebec added an assist for the UMFK (11-0). Proctor made three saves on six shots in goal for the Lady Bengals while Stephanie Wunderley made six saves on 16 shots for the University of Maine Machias.
