UMFK men's basketball opens this weekend in Fort Kent

FORT KENT - The University of Maine at Fort Kent men's basketball team will open their regular season this weekend with games on Saturday and Sunday October 22 and 23.

On Saturday, UMFK will host Mount Allison University (Sackville, New Brunswick) at 7pm in the UMFK Sports Center. On Sunday, the Bengals will face St. Thomas University (Fredericton, New Brunswick) at 1pm.

The university will show both games live on Bengal Vision which is a web stream broadcast of the contests located on the UMFK Athletics website at http://athletics.umfk.maine.edu/webcast/.

Last season, UMFK went 18-10 and lost in the Sunrise Conference finals 69-68 to Fisher College. UMFK will compete as a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Independent during the 2011-12 season. Following regular season play, the top eight teams in USCAA Division 1 men's basketball will get an invitation to the national tournament in Uniontown, PA., March 6 - 10.

After this weekend's games, remaining home dates for the Bengals in 2011-12 will be the Bengal Classic Friday November 11 vs. University of Maine Machais at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday November 13 vs. Daemen College (New York) at 2 p.m.; Sunday December 11 vs. Holland College (PEI, Canada) at 1 p.m.; Houghton College (New York) Wednesday January 4 at 7p.m.; SUNY Canton Saturday January 21 at 3 p.m.; University of Maine Presque Isle Friday February 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Virginia University at Lynchburg Saturday February 11 at 3 p.m.
