FORT KENT - This year, in conjunction with the Greater Fort Kent Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Scarecrow Festival, the University of Maine at Fort Kent will host a new Homecoming event, the UMFK Classic and Custom Car Show.

UMFK will hold the car show on Saturday, September 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the parking lot area near the Old Model School (formerly called the Annex Building). The new event is free of charge to the public.

The car show will be an informal gathering of people who enjoy classic and customized vehicles. John Metz is coordinating the show.

UMFK is inviting all classic and custom vehicle owners from the area to bring their cars, trucks, motorcycles, or sport utility vehicles to campus to display them.

Metz commented that during the last few weeks he has attended several car shows and met with car club members to spread the word about the new car show across the area. Dedicated members of car clubs are also distributing flyers across The County.  The members will display their classic cars in the show.

"We all know that our area has hundreds of classic cars, said Metz.  "We hope the word gets out and we fill the parking area with the vehicles."

Organizers invite participants of the car show to join in the annual "UMFK Homecoming/ Scarecrow Festival" parade. Please pre-register through the UMFK alumni office at 207- 834-7557 or by email at: susan.tardie@maine.edu
