An opportunity to buy local - Home Solutions opens in Fort Kent

FORT KENT - It is always a boost to a community when a new business opens up, and Fort Kent received a boost last week when Curtis and Christine Saucier opened Home Solutions on Main Street in Fort Kent.

"It seemed that the timing was right," said Curtis.

Curtis Saucier has worked in carpentry for years and sold kitchen equipment for Quigley's across the street.  He bought the inventory from Quigley's bath and kitchen division and became his own boss.

Home Solutions provides products for new kitchens and renovations of existing kitchens.  The company, located at the intersection of Main and Pleasant Street, provides cabinetry, counter tops and other necessities for any kitchen.  Christine Saucier said the company will soon provide appliances for kitchens.

Curtis said, "I just wanted to give the people of the St. John Valley the opportunity to buy local."

By providing the materials from a local source, the Sauciers say they can control the time-frame, ordering and the quantities involved in building and renovating kitchens.

Along with sales, the folks at Home Solutions also offer installation and support for the products they sell.

Curtis said, "In a small community like this, it's about going the extra mile.  You need to show the customers that the service makes the difference."

Curtis is bilingual and can work in Canada.

Last Thursday, the Saucier's were discussing slogans to help get the main concept of their business across.  They toyed with "Love your kitchen", "Love your home", and other mottoes.

They still haven't found the right phrase, but the goal, said Curtis, is to make people enjoy their kitchen.

He said, "We encourage people to take a look and see what we have to offer."
