Man flees scene of snow sled accident, leaves injured man behind

27 January 2012

AROOSTOOK COUNTY - Maine State Police are seeking a man who fled the scene of a snowsled accident on Thursday, Jan. 26, at approximately 8:40 p.m.

According to a press release from Sergeant Brian L. Harris, Ronald McGraw, age 39 of Patten, was driving a snowsled on Heald Ave. in Patten, when he struck a parked tractor trailer that Kerry Swallow of Patten owned.

McGraw had a passenger on the sled, Michael Grant, age 27 of Patten, who suffered a possible broken leg in the crash.  After the crash occurred, McGraw fled the scene on the snow sled while Grant stayed at the accident scene.

Maine State Trooper Carman Lilley responded to the call in Patten.

An ambulance transported Grant by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The 2007 Peterbilt which Swallow owns was undamaged in the accident.  Because the sled had left the scene prior to the arrival of the investigatinmg officer, state police have been unable to assess any damage to it.

Police have made attempts to locate McGraw but have so far been unsuccessful.

At this time, Maine State Police are still looking for McGraw to speak to him about the accident.

The police are encouraging anyone with information regarding McGraw's whereabouts to call the Maine State Police at 532-5400.

Tr. Jillian Monahan and Patten Fire and Ambulance assisted Tr. Lilley.
