Each participant must first compete in a local Hot Shot event sponsored by a community recreation department in their area. The Fort Kent Recreation and Parks Department with host University of Maine at Fort Kent will hold this event on Sunday, Feb. 5 at the UMFK Gym with warm-up at noon and competition starting at 1 pm. Division winners will advance to the regional competition.

Hot Shot Competition is a great opportunity for youth ages 9-15 to compete against other basketball enthusiasts across the state.  Hot Shot involves shooting from five "hot spots" marked on one end of the basketball court. This competition tests each contestant's speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding ability.

After the completion of all regional events, the winners and runner-ups of each age division then advance to the M.R.P.A. Red Claws State Hot Shot Competition. Participants at the State Competition compete for first place and runner-up awards.
