BIG FIRST - Howard Horne of Milo brought in the first muskie at the Fort Kent Muskie Derby. - Birden photo

Caught by Howard Horne of Milo, Maine, this first muskie was 37 and 7/8 inches long and weighed 16 pounds, 13 ounces.

A smiling Horne said he caught the fish on the St. John River, just below Fort Kent.

One person asked if Horne planned on heading back out to fish so more, and he replied, "Oh, absolutely."

The muskie derby is running in Fort Kent through Sunday afternoon.

Orhanizers said they have over 250 registrants so far, which looks like it should exceed the number set last year.
