Bengal men best Owls
PRESQUE ISLE/Fort Kent - University of Maine at Fort Kent's Jeremy Thomas and Othniel Hyliger scored 17 points each to pace the Bengals to a 75-64 win over host University of Maine at Presque Isle on Tuesday night, Feb. 7. The game was a make-up from a postponed game back on Jan. 27 due to snow.
On a night where both teams were a combined 13-17 from three-point range, UMFK 6-7, UMPI 7-10, it was the Bengals inside and transition game that made the difference. Up 25-18, Fort Kent (15-6) turned a couple of quick steals into transition dunks and lay-ups to break open to a double digit lead at the half, 38-23.
Midway into the second half, the Bengals had built to a 20-point lead, 56-36. UMPI (3-13) continued to battle. Led by Patrick Manifold's, junior from Great Yarmouth, UK, 21 point, 15 rebound performance, the Owls chipped the deficit down to nine at 72-61 but with only 1:08 left to play.
UMPI and UMFK played again Friday, Feb. 10 in Fort Kent. Tip time was 7:30 p.m.
