Accident near Fort Kent seriously injures New Brunswick teen

FORT KENT - Emergency personnel air-lifted a New Brunswick teen to Eastern Maine Medical Center on Sunday as a result of an accident on Strip Road near Wallagrass.

According to a spokesperson at the Fort Kent police, the accident occurred Sunday morning, just before 11 a.m. where New Canada Road intersects with Strip Road.

According to police, John Michael Fongemie, 16, of Edmundston, New Brunswick, was driving a white 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup north on New Canada Road.

SERIOUS INJURIES - This pickup, driven by John Michael Fongemie, went through the rail and down an embankment at the intersection of New Canada Road and Strip Road.  The force of the accident threw Steve Daigle, 19, from the vehicle.

Fongemie lost control of the truck as he came around a curve, skidded across the Strip Road intersection, struck a guardrail, and rolled down the steep embankment.

Passenger Steve Daigle, 19, went through the windshield, and sustained very serious injuries.

LifeFlight air-lifted the teen to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Police said Fongemie was wearing his seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. A Fort Kent ambulance took Fongemie to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent and later transferred to Edmundston Hospital.
