Slippery roads and speed likely factors in morning collision
FORT KENT – Slippery conditions at 7:40 a.m. caused an accident at the entrance to Armory Road on Feb. 8 which resulted in approximately $3,000 worth of damage, said Fort Kent Police Chief Kenneth Michaud.
Deborah Cannan of Fort Kent, 44, was stopped at the stop sign on Armory Road at the entrance to Pleasant Street in her 2005 Mazda when a minor struck the front of her vehicle.
The 16-year-old driver was traveling north on Pleasant Street when the teenager lost control of the 1995 Honda while turning into Armory Road. The rear of the minor's vehicle swung around in what was almost a 360-degree skid with the left rear end of the vehicle striking the left front end of Canaan's vehicle.
Michaud, the investigating officer, said speed was a factor. The incident caused approximately $2,000 worth of damage to the minor's vehicle and approximately $1,000 worth of damage to Cannan's vehicle.
