FORT KENT – The new year was off to a rocky start for a couple of local men who engaged in a bar fight in the wee hours of New Year’s Day.

In early morning hours on Tuesday, Jan. 1, two men fought in the parking lot behind Bee-Jays, said Fort Kent Police Chief Kenneth Michaud.

The fight sent one man to the hospital, apparently without serious injuries, however.

Police subsequently charged both men with disorderly conduct.

“It was just a fight,” said the police chief. “It was an argument that turned into a fight.”

Investigating Officer Steve Hoglund arrived at Bee-Jays to find a clerk from Circle K in the parking lot next to the convenience store. The clerk directed Hoglund to the parking lot behind Bee-Jays, where several people were gathered.

Most dispersed, leaving two men behind. One man, 26-year-old Patrick Caron of South Perley Brook, Fort Kent, was on his knees yelling at 21-year-old Jan Jandreau of Clark Brook Road, Wallagrass, who was lying on the ground.

Jandreau asked for help getting up from the police officer, saying he had fallen and couldn't walk. Hoglund radioed dispatch for an ambulance, but in the interim, Caron and Jandreau began arguing again, admitting to having hit each other during the previous altercation.

ASI. Inc. transported Jandreau to Northern Maine Medical Center, where medical personnel treated him with pain medication, said Michaud

Treated with what?

He actually fractured and dislocated his ankle, with the fractures being in multiple places, and he's in Bangor having surgery right now. He's also 31, not 21. Saying he just went to the ER to get pain medication is pretty inaccurate, and you obviously didn't get your information from the hospital, which would be a violation of the HIPAA privacy act. I just got back from discussing the situation with his family since they are close friends of mine, not cool to be spreading false information like that. If you are going to report something, report it accurately, don't just post anything you can to be sensational and get more readers. Might as well get some talent from the National Enquirer and go do a spread on BatBoy being found in a cave in St. John. Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery and more accurate reporting in the future. I'm sure y'all do the best you can, but when you report someone went to an ER in a small town to get pain medication it kinda sends the wrong message don't you think?

inaccurate reporting?

"ASI. Inc. transported Jandreau to Northern Maine Medical Center, where medical personnel treated him with pain medication, said Michaud " directing your attention to those last two words . . . Unless I'm mistaken that would indicate an individual being quoted rather than embellishment for sensationalism. So before you go off on a rant about misinformation you might want to ensure you are directing it in the appropriate direction. Have a nice day
